Exploring the Abandoned Imperial Sugar Mill
Sugar Land, Texas was a company town that grew up around the Imperial Sugar Mill near Houston. Today it is a thriving, wealthy suburb. Imperial Sugar was headquartered here and operated this refinery until the early 2000's. In December 2010, one of the major buildings was imploded. The main building is protected as a historical site, and today a farmers market is open on the premises on Saturdays. There are rumors of plans to renovate these buildings and construct lofts and offices, but not much has been done other than equipment removal and demolitions since the refinery ceased operations.
I was fascinated by the textures and light in around the buildings, and was able to capture some interesting photographs of the site.
